The inspiration for the work was gained on the way from Liepāja to Ventspils, when, slightly deviating from the usual course, Normunds Kaprano found a true pearl – a building built of solid boulders with a mossy tiled roof.

“Unfortunately, the building was abandoned and everything was forgotten – blind window eyes, overgrown with weeds. No matter how hard I tried to find out the history of the fascinating building, I could not find its owners. I just found out that the building was once in its heyday Villas pub,” says the photographer.

“I captured one of the wooden window frames, which was still hanging on one hinge and creaking pitifully, unable to resist the wind’s intention to remove the last fastening, mostly in black and white photos. Why black and white? In my opinion, bright colors do not suit the stories of the old window,” continues Normunds Kaprano.

Normunds Kaprano (1963) is the People’s Photo Studio of Liepāja Folk Art and Culture Center Photograph a member whose everyday life is blown away by the sea breeze in the city of Liepāja.

Passion to observe the world through cameras an eye Normund has had Caprano since early childhood, when together with his father he developed pictures in the kitchen wrapped in sheets and red light. At that time, the photographer, who has so far received several awards in photo contests, including international ones – silver medal of the International Federation of Photographic Arts (FIAP) (2020), IS silver medal (2020), gold medal of the International Association of Art Photographers (IAAP) (2021), etc. – he could not have imagined that in time the camera would become the most grateful travel companion.
