“When it comes to defense, including the strengthening of the European military industry, these are really new issues in the European Union (EU), because historically the EU was created as a peace project to prevent the recurrence of war on European territory. Unfortunately, war on European territory has become a reality again, so the EU will have to do much more in the field of defense and security.”
Dombrovskis assures that it is undeniable that additional financial resources will have to be devoted to the field of defense. “Of course, this will require additional financial resources both at the level of the European Union and at the level of the member states themselves. We see that currently the member states themselves are increasing their military spending. It is important that they are used effectively.”
The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission emphasized in the program that the issue of defense is already very high on the agenda of the EU and will remain so in the coming period.
