On Monday, small and large artists painted a sail here, which will be hoisted ceremonially on May 9, Europe Day. Until then, all those interested can still come to the library and add to the sail – there are free places on the canvas.

In the morning, the children of the “Zīļuks” kindergarten, who also come here every day, were busy in the workshop led by the artist Kristīnes Austeres.

In the afternoon, people who have creative connections with the library came, said its employee Sanita Stepen.

The German Society operates here once a month, the Society for the Blind has organized exhibitions, as well as colleagues from the “Rainbow” library support the campaign.

“This is the first unifying step for neighborhood residents and library supporters, the next one will be on May 9,”

says S. Stepana.

Then at half past two in the day, the authors of the sail and people from the neighborhood will be invited together.

The sail will be raised in front of the library with the accompaniment of the Austrasbärnu concert. There will be a quiz for young people, followed by a bike ride to Walter’s library in the Northern suburbs.

This year, the Zaļas birzs library can finally start waiting for the improvement of the conditions in the premises, because the technical project for the repair has finally been developed.

“Zīļuka” children chose a book from the shelves and drew the back of the book as it appears on the shelves, reveals K. Austere.

The teachers helped to write the names of the books in the drawings.

“When the sail with the green background dries, I will sew the books onto it and it will look like they are on shelves,”

says the artist.

Kristīne fell in love with the Zaļas birzs library about a year ago, when the literary event “Readings of loose plaster” took place here.

The artist created a guest book of the library – a drawing album, which starts a thread to follow and create your own drawing.

The previously bare and dilapidated wall, brought back to life by Kristine’s labor of love and exhibitions, now has a nice corner near it in the library.

Currently, animals drawn by Simona Kuzmina can be seen in the corner. The enormous talent of Puze elementary school student was accidentally discovered by Kristīne while taking the students on an excursion. Well, the talent has been brought to light.

Simona draws one picture of an animal for 12 to 20 hours. People are already asking for the young artist’s contacts to order their animal drawings.

Exhibitions have a permanent place in the library, on the 2nd floor there are currently flowers painted by Irina Tîre in the cycle “Bloom in Spring”.

On the other side of the sail, everyone has their own area.

“The common concept is to create the inner feeling of the Zaļas birzsa sail. Everyone already knows what brings them here from time to time and how a person feels here,”

says K. Austere.

Edith Fyodorova is the head of the art group of the Blind Society. His sail is complemented by a tit sitting in green trees and associated with the Green Grove.

“9. May is a wonderful holiday for all of us, especially now, when the topic of war is hot. That is why we need peace the most and for us to remember how precious peace is to us,” she says.

Aija Jansone from the “Rainbow” library placed a book in the center of the drawing with the idea that roads lead out from it in all directions.

“The book unites. And there is also a chimney, which symbolizes warmth and light,”

she tells.

The response to the sailing campaign is that people can still apply, says the representative of the “Liepāja 2027” foundation Maija Jankovska.

On April 26, the sail will be painted in Ezerkrasta, in the “Libris” library, and then in other micro-districts.

The sails will be put on to set off for the year of the European Capital of Culture together with the active people in the vicinity of Liepāja, in the Southern Kurzeme and Kuldīga regions.
