Last year, the number of guest nights booked on digital platforms in Latvia increased by 21.6%

1.43 million guest nights were spent in Latvia in 2023, booked on one of the four digital platforms – “Booking”, “Airbnb”, “Expedia” and “Tripadvisor”, according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSB) and the European Statistical Office. Data obtained in the “Eurostat” cooperation project. This is 21.6% more than in 2022, when the number of guest nights booked was 1.18 million, and also 7.2% more than in 2019, before the pandemic, when the number of guest nights booked reached 1.34 million nights .

Last year, 1.1 million or 76.6% of guest nights were booked by foreign guests, while 336 thousand or 23.4% were booked by Latvian residents. Compared to 2022, the number of guest nights booked by both foreign guests (by 29.2%) and local guests (by 1.9%) increased. Compared to 2019, the number of nights booked by local guests increased twice, while the number of nights booked by foreign guests decreased by 6.1%.

Last year, the length of reservations made on digital platforms was 3.3 nights on average for foreign guests, and 1.8 nights for Latvian residents, according to CSB publicized data.

The data provides information on guest nights booked on the four mentioned digital platforms in short-term accommodation such as guest apartments, apartments, holiday homes, holiday homes, cottages and similar accommodation, excluding hotels and similar accommodation, as well as campsites.

The largest number of accommodations in Latvia is available on the “Booking” platform, where guests were offered about 3.6 thousand tourist accommodations in June 2023. In the traditional data that CSB obtains from guest apartments, apartments, holiday homes, country houses, etc. etc. residences, information could be gathered from less than a thousand accommodations.
