“Electric scooters can be registered in two ways: one is to take an electric scooter and go to any CSDD customer center, and the other is to take a photo, record the serial number and technical data and, using CSDD’s electronic services, perform registration at home,” explains CSDD Registration Department specialist Kristaps Dzenis .

He also adds that there are more symbols in the registration number of commercial scooters than that of private individuals, so you should not worry that something is wrong.

As for how the new requirement and what is yet to come in connection with various restrictions in the center of Riga could affect traffic, traffic safety expert Oskars Irbītis emphasizes that any license plate leads to loss of anonymity.

“As we see on the Internet, the one who is anonymous is very brave and speaks whatever comes to mind. It’s the same with these driving tools – if it’s anonymous, we drive as we please. Individual vehicles allow you to find out their owners – how they drive, why they drive, etc. etc. Also, it is much easier for merchants to find out which customer has tampered with something, and possibly prevent future use of these scooters. Therefore, I hope that the traffic culture will change”, Irbītis expresses his hope.

At the same time, he reminds us that an electric scooter is different from other smaller vehicles such as bicycles. It starts very well, but brakes much worse. “Therefore, when choosing the speed, trajectory and driving location, you should think about your safety. However, a typical accident is a brake applied in the wrong place and a fall over the “horns”.
