Media points out that Latvia has taken over only one property belonging to Russia – “Moscow House”, but according to the data of the Judicial Administration, Russia owns 16 other properties.

Among them, the Russian Embassy owns an apartment in a nine-story residential building at 201 Slokas Street, Imanta, Riga. The entry in the land register shows that the Russian embassy received the apartment in question with an area of about 50 square meters as a gift in the fall of 1997, but no information about the donor can be found in the land register. The court administration, which maintains the computerized land register, did not provide an answer to the media as to why the record of the donor of the apartment was deleted.

Another apartment belonging to the Russian Embassy is located in the quiet center of Riga – Antonijas Street 6A. The embassy inherited it from Sergej Kostromin in 2005. There are also four more real estates owned by Russia in the vicinity – a house on Andreja Pumpura street 1, historical houses on Alberta street 3 and Alberta street 5, as well as the Russian embassy building on Ukraina neutsaribas street 2.

Ināra Papina, head of the Riga City Council’s revenue department and deputy director of the Finance Department, referring to the information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the properties of Russia and Belarus in Riga are used for the needs of diplomatic and consular representations, which, accordingly, allows them to avoid paying taxes.

According to the media, Russia also owns properties in Latvia in Liepāja and Daugavpils – two apartments in each mentioned city. In Daugavpils there is also the former general consulate building and garages next to the apartment building.

On the other hand, the Administration of the President of Russia owns the “Jantarnij bereg” or “Dzintarkrasts” sanatorium, a mineral water well station and utility buildings, as well as sewage water pumping stations in Jaunķemeri, Zvīņu Street 2.

“Dzintarkrast”, which does not continue its work after the application of sanctions, is located about 10 kilometers from the “Belorusia” sanatorium, which belongs to the Belarusian Presidential Administration, which is under the direct control of the Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko.

Soon after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the State Security Service reported that the managers of the two sanatoriums – Russian citizen Viktor Daniloh and Belarusian citizen Alexander Gruzdov – were included in the “black list”. This means they cannot enter the country.

According to the security service, both acted in the interests of Russia, but the “Dzintarkrasts” sanatorium belonging to the Russian Presidential Administration served as a support point for Russian influence measures, “Lsm.lv” reports.

The media notes that since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine a couple of years ago, “Belarus” has been subject to sanctions. As well as several other buildings directly across the street connected to the sanatorium and controlled by Lukashenko.

Two more blue wooden houses can be seen in the area, on the license plates of which it is written that it is the property of “Belarus”. One of the buildings seems to be in good condition, while the other one is very dilapidated, notes “lsm.lv”, while adding that not all the existing buildings are similarly marked, however, some things point to a connection with the institution controlled by Lukashenko, for example, behind a farm building there an old bus with the name of the sanatorium is parked on the territory.

Comparing the building numbers with the information in the “Lursoft” database, it was concluded that other buildings in the fenced area served as luxury lodgings for visitors to the sanatorium until recently.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dace Eglīte, explained to the media that the “Belarus” sanatorium was handed over to Belarus in accordance with the 1993 agreement between the Government of Latvia and the Government of Belarus, which confirms the agreement of the parties that the buildings and structures of the sanatorium were built at the expense of Belarus in accordance with the regulations, as well as means of transport, medical and other equipment, which are on the balance sheet of the sanatorium, are the property of Belarus.
