Lejasciema company “Smalka malka” prepares logs of the required length with modern equipment – Gulbene district – Dzirkstele.lv

Vilnis Kantiševs, a villager from Lejas, received financial support in order to purchase a modern firewood preparation equipment when he participated in the Gulbene region municipal grant competition “Entrepreneurial in Gulbene region”.

In many private houses in our county, firewood is still the main source of heating energy. It is a renewable resource, and although it is inconvenient to use, it is also currently the cheapest. Many homeowners buy it three meters long, only to later “turn” it into logs of the required length by themselves. The new service is also intended for those who do not have the ability, desire or time to do this work.

“The device is fully autonomous. It runs on a gasoline engine and does not require any additional power source, neither electricity nor a tractor with a PTO. Both sawing and splitting process with hydraulics, so it is relatively easy and does not require much effort. The only thing required is access to the place where the firewood is to be prepared. Somewhere on the edge of the forest, if a person doesn’t want to do it in his yard,” says Vilnis about the new equipment.

“The idea for this service arose because for many years I myself prepared firewood for two private houses, and it took me about three months. Now, if I pull it properly, I can process a load of twenty cubic meters even in one day. You still have to properly “shoot” it yourself and understand how thick you can lift alone, but there is also a hand saw, but that prolongs the process. The device can be supplemented with a lifting table, which is necessary for heavier logs, but until then we still have to work with what we have. We still need to understand the difference between different tree species, because processing times change there too, at least according to technical indicators. The other thing that prompted me to do this is the many three-meter wood piles in the yards of the houses. I realized that I will not be the only one who wants to make life easier for himself. The device has already passed the first tests and I am very satisfied with it so far. It must be said that without the support of the grant, since the own financing was only 20%, there probably would not have been such a facility. All that remains is to work, and this must be done for at least three years. In order to perform this service, SIA “Smalka malka” was registered, so there is no problem to operate in either the private or legal sector. Firewood will always be needed, and even though there are various heating options nowadays, firewood will not disappear anywhere in my lifetime,” V. Kantiševs is sure.
