Speaking about the scandal that happened, the political scientist draws attention to a significant disadvantage in the remote work culture. “Remote work has turned into a complete routine where it doesn’t have to be. However, I believe that political meetings, political discussions between politicians on such an important matter as the budget cannot be conducted remotely. A person is such a being for whom face-to-face contact is very important and the fact that you move the seat remotely, firstly, reduces the importance of this sitting and, secondly, it frees the person’s hands – if it is not so important, then I can deal with everything else. ”

The political scientist points out that scandals arise as a result, citing an example from Argentina, where a politician got into an even more spicy situation when he had sex during the meeting.

The political scientist calls the events in Jelgava the “light version of Latvia”, which in its essence is a wrong consequence of the fact that part of the state administration still follows the practice of working remotely, although there is no rational justification for this.

Commenting on the tense relationship between Madara Lasmanis and the executive director of the Jelgava regional government, Liga Lonerti, Rajevskis believes that Lasmanis is trying to turn a funny situation into a political one.

“He seizes its power convulsively. From a funny situation, he tries to make it political. I think it’s absolutely not good for him to make it political. The longer he tries to investigate something, solve something, the longer the scandal will not go away. In essence, that scandal exhausted itself the next day, but he himself is doing absolutely everything with his activity to continue talking about it.”
