On October 4, the Latvian Puppet Theater will celebrate its 80th birthday, which is planned to be celebrated with a wide program of events for theater professionals and interested parties. Internationally recognized theater professionals and lecturers will visit Latvia for 4 days to conduct master classes, study contemporary theater development scenarios in a 2-day conference, and offer exciting guest performances to Latvian theater audiences.

The program “WHERE TO GO?” will take place from October 1 – 4 in the premises of the Latvian Puppet Theatre, the Latvian Academy of Culture, the Latvian Academy of Arts and the house of Rainas and Aspazijas. The first 2 days will be devoted to the practical training process, organizing 3 master classes: “Co-production and object theater dramaturgy” (Sodja Zupanc-Lotker, Czech Republic) will await playwrights and theater critics, “Eco-scenography workshop” (Tanya Beer, Australia) is intended for stage designers and artists, while actors and directors are welcome at the workshop “How to tell a story with limited materials. I am a story” (Ishmaels Falke, Anna Ivanova-Brashinska, Finland). Each of the master classes will last 2 full days.

The central event of the program, which will gather a wide local and foreign audience, will be the international conference “Contemporary (puppet) theater: Where to go?” October 3 – 4. The conference will gather recognized lecturers, masters of contemporary performing arts, psychologists, philosophers, marketing experts and producers to think and talk together about the possibilities and scenarios for the development of the theater industry today. Lecturers from Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Peru and Australia will discuss the situation of performing arts in Europe and the world. The conference will take place in the Great Hall of the Latvian Puppet Theater, registration is possible from today on the Ticket Paradise website.

In parallel with the program of master classes and the conference, the Kaunas State Puppet Theater will offer a wider insight into the diversity of puppet theater with the guest performance “Lion and Bird” (from the age of 3) on October 1 and the Finnish Contemporary Puppet Theater Association Grus Grus with the production “Invisible Lands” (from the age of 12 ) on October 3. Both shows are made without text, which makes them easy to understand for viewers of any country.

On the occasion of the 80th birthday, in addition to the foreign program, the Latvian Puppet Theater has also prepared a very special new production – on October 2, the premiere of “Legendary Show” will be held in the collaboration of directors Vijas Blūzma, Edgars Kaufeld and Mārtiņš Eihes – this work will explore and reveal the extravagant director and artistic director of the Latvian Puppet Theater Tīnas Herzberg’s work and personality, in search of the key to the success of the 1967 award-winning production “Interlellis-67”.

More information about the events of the anniversary program can be found on the website teatrakonference.lv or lelluteatris.lv. Tickets for all events can be purchased from today at bilesuparadize.lv. The number of places in the master classes, conference and guest performances is limited.
