Officers were called to the rapper’s home after someone tried to break into the property Wednesday afternoon, a Toronto police spokeswoman said.
The person was taken into custody under the Ontario Mental Health Act and taken to a hospital for treatment, the release said.
The Mental Health Act allows police officers to detain people if they have reason to believe they are suffering from a mental disorder and are behaving inappropriately.
Authorities do not believe this incident and the shooting the day before are related.
There is no initial information available on whether Drake or anyone else was inside the home at the time of the attempted break-in.
A day earlier, Toronto police said a security guard guarding the gate of Drake’s residence was shot and taken to hospital in serious condition.
Police said the motive for the shooting has not been determined, responding to reporters’ questions about whether the shooting had anything to do with the recent feud between Drake and fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Drake has won five Grammy Awards and is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time.
His most famous hits are ‘Nice For What’, ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘One Dance’.
The public feud between Lamar and Drake has escalated recently, as each artist has released songs personally and professionally targeting the other, sparking online feuds between the two rappers’ fans as well.
