Sirsky revealed that Ukrainian army units have been forced to leave their positions near the village of Ocheretyn and near the town of Marynka in the north of Donetsk region. This is said to have happened because the invaders, using both manpower and weapon superiority, put enormous pressure on the defenders of Ukraine.

Describing the general situation at the front, Sirskis wrote that Russian troops are actively attacking along the entire length of the front line and are also achieving tactical success at certain stages. This is possible because the Russian army has more soldiers and weapons at its disposal, while Ukrainian units suffer from a lack of combat-ready soldiers, weapons and artillery shells.

It is not yet clear in which direction of the front Russian troops could try to implement a wider offensive, but there are signs indicating the invaders’ desire to press towards Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city. Oleksandr Pivnenko, the commander of the National Front of Ukraine, also warned about this last week.

Analysts of the US think tank “Institute for War Research” have also pointed to the tactical success of Russian troops in certain directions in the north of the Donetsk region.

However, the invaders have not managed to make rapid breakthroughs in this sector of the front, which shows the ability of the Ukrainian army units to defend effectively, despite the very limited resources.

Experts of the “War Research Institute” predicted that in the coming weeks, before the arrival of US military aid, Russian troops are likely to achieve even greater tactical success, but are unlikely to be able to completely break Ukraine’s defenses.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, yesterday evening again appealed to the international community with a request to immediately provide his country with more anti-aircraft defense systems,

to be able to repel Russian missile and drone attacks. Zelensky also said that Ukrainian troops need more weapons to maintain their positions at the front and disrupt Russia’s war plans.

Zelensky appealed to the European Union to immediately start negotiations on Ukraine’s admission to the bloc, as Kyiv has fulfilled all the necessary conditions for negotiations to begin. In December, the leaders of the European Union member states gave the green light to start accession negotiations with Ukraine.

Ukraine also wants to become a member of NATO, so Zelensky said that any country that shares common values with NATO and is ready to defend them deserves an invitation to join the alliance.
