The 75-year-old monarch will resume some public duties next week after a three-month hiatus after being diagnosed with an unknown type of cancer, Buckingham Palace officials said Friday.

Charles will visit a cancer treatment center on Tuesday, the first of several public appearances he is scheduled to make in the coming weeks, the palace said.

One of his first big tasks will be hosting the state visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan in June.

A palace statement said the royal doctors were “very pleased” with his progress, although it was too early to say how long the treatment would last. No word yet on what kind of treatment the king is receiving.

Charles’ return will ease the pressure on other members of the royal family.

With the king’s commitment to reduce the powers of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, more commonly known as Prince Harry and Meghan, there are simply fewer family members to preside over the endless ribbon-cutting and award ceremonies that are the state events of modern royalty.

Since undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate in January, Charles has been largely out of the public eye since he was later diagnosed with cancer

The Princess of Wales is also reported to be one of the most popular in the royal family. She underwent abdominal surgery and also later announced that she had cancer.

Prince William took time off to support his wife and their new family. Consequently, Queen Camilla, the King’s sister Princess Anne and his younger brother Prince Edward were forced to shoulder the full burden of responsibility in the royal family.
