The European Union has closed its airspace to the Turkish airline Southwind Airlines. It turns out that this airline is controlled by a Russian company.

Already on April 25, 2024, “Southwind Airlines” was not allowed to fly to Helsinki, but on March 28, due to sanctions, the airline’s planes were prohibited from entering European airspace.

As it turns out, Southwind Airlines was founded in 2022, already after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The airline received part of the planes from the Crimean airline “Nordwind Airlines”, which belongs to the Crimean tourism company “Pegas Touristik”, which is also the owner of “Southwind Airlines”.

The airline operated flights not only from Turkey to Russia and Belarus, but also to Germany, Italy, Switzerland and some other countries.
