The Israeli attack was aimed at an area “near missile depots belonging to Lebanon [kaujinieku] to Hezbollah,” SOHR added.

“At least 36 soldiers were killed and dozens wounded,” said the organization, which has a wide network of news sources in Syria.

Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that civilians as well as military personnel were killed and wounded in the overnight strike.

A news source in the Syrian army told SANA that around 1:45 a.m. “the enemy Israel launched an air attack from the side of Atria, southeast of Aleppo”.

The Israeli army, contacted by the AFP news agency, said it would “not comment on reports in foreign media”.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes against targets in Syria since 2011, when the civil war broke out in Syria. These strikes were mainly aimed at Iranian-backed forces, including Hezbollah fighters, and Syrian army positions.

The number of these strikes has increased since Israel’s war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah, began on October 7.
