INDIANAPOLIS – The New York Knicks’ injury report continues to grow.
OG Anunoby will miss Game 3 Friday of the second-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers with a left hamstring strain, the team announced Thursday. The Knicks have not announced a timetable for his return.
Anunoby departed the Game 2 victory against the Pacers with 3 minutes, 27 seconds to go in the third quarter, grabbing at the back of his left leg and immediately limping to the locker room. He did not return.
The 26-year-old forward was having his best game since arriving in New York more than four months ago, scoring 28 points in only 28 minutes and holding together an offense that was missing its engine for most of the first half after Jalen Brunson exited in the first quarter.
When Anunoby plays, the Knicks are 26-5 since he was acquired from the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 30
Brunson, who left the training room in the middle of Wednesday’s 130-121 win but returned for the start of the second half, is listed as questionable for the game in Indiana with right foot soreness.
Brunson stayed in the training room through the second quarter and emerged from the tunnel with a few minutes to go until the start of the third quarter as fans rose to their feet for a massive ovation. “MVP!” chants rained from the stands as Brunson went through his warmups. He chose to play and dropped 24 points in the second half, helping the Knicks to a victory.
The Knicks, who lead the series 2-0, are already dealing with injuries galore.
The team announced earlier this week that Mitchell Robinson, who underwent left ankle surgery in December, would miss the remainder of the postseason because of a stress injury in the same ankle. Bojan Bogdanović is done for the postseason as well after injuring his foot and undergoing surgery during the first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. Julius Randle has been out since January with a dislocated shoulder and will not return until 2024-25.
