CLEMSON—No. 5 seed Clemson softball opens play in the ACC Tournament against No. 4 seed Virginia on Thursday at Duke Softball Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
The Tigers (33-16, 15-9 ACC) tied for fourth in the conference with the Cavaliers (32-17, 15-9), but they lost two of three games to them to lose the tiebreaker. Seven Clemson players, including Valerie Cagle, earned all-ACC honors this year as they look to win their first conference tournament. Clemson has reached the ACC Tournament final in two of the past three seasons but lost both times.
The Cavaliers ended their season winning two of three against Georgia Tech. Three players earned all-conference accolades, including Eden Bigham and Jade Hylton, who received first-team honors as sophomores.
The winner of Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup (ACC Network, 1:30 pm ET) will face the winner between No. 1 seed Duke and No. 9 seed Boston College in the semifinals on Friday.
