The loss of Russian troops in Ukraine has reached 478,730 soldiers by Thursday morning, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army.
According to the data of the general staff, 1300 invaders were destroyed during the day.
Since the beginning of the repeated invasion on February 24, 2022, the Russians have lost 7,429 tanks, 14,281 armored personnel carriers, 12,340 cannons and mortars, 1,058 rocket launchers, 793 anti-aircraft artillery, 349 airplanes, 325 helicopters, 2,192 drones cruise missiles, 26 ships and speedboats, one submarine, 16,618 cars and tankers, as well as 2,027 units of specialized equipment.
The extent of Russia’s losses is being clarified, as the acquisition of information is hindered by hostilities.
Zelensky compares the fight against Russia with the fight against the Nazis
In commemorating the end of World War II in Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Wednesday compared his country’s defense against the Russian invasion to Ukrainian efforts to defeat Nazi Germany.
“80 years ago, millions of Ukrainians fought to defeat Nazism once and for all,” Zelensky said in a video message recorded as he visited the town of Yahidne in Chernihiv Oblast, where Russian occupiers committed a war crime in 2022.
“But today, Ukrainians are again fighting against evil, which has been reborn, has returned and wants to destroy us again,” said Zelensky.
In March 2022, the Russian occupiers imprisoned more than 350 local residents, including 80 children, in the basement of the school in Jahidne for several weeks. This case has been documented not only by Ukrainians, but also by international media organizations. 10 people died in that confinement, and 17 more were killed by the occupiers, Zelensky said.
Zelensky believes that these events have shown what Russia is like under its President Vladimir Putin. “If this is not Nazism, then what is?” Zelensky asked in an emotional video.
The President reminded that the Ukrainian army liberated Yahidni at the end of March 2022. He sees this as a sign that history may repeat itself, as in the case of the victory over the Nazis: “Anyone who came to destroy us will eventually flee from the land of Ukraine.”
Two people were killed in the shooting in Nikopol
Two people were killed in the shelling of Nikopol by Russian troops, Kyiv announced on Thursday.
Russian soldiers stationed on the other bank of the Dnieper regularly fire at Nikopoli.
“A 62-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were killed by enemy artillery, Serhiy Lisak, head of the state administration of Dnipropetrovsk region, said. He posted photos of a house with a burning roof and several other damaged buildings.
During the night, Russia launched 20 drones against Ukraine, 17 of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defense. Most of the drones were shot down over Odesa region.
One drone hit a two-story building in the Mykolaiv region, but there were no reports of casualties.
