The Florida State softball team is ready to make another run at the Women’s College World Series. The road to Oklahoma City starts in Durham, North Carolina, with the ACC softball tournament.
From 16 FSU (41-13, 19-5 in ACC) finished the regular season as the conference’s No. 2 seed behind only host Duke. The Seminoles won 14 games in a row before stumbling to a 1-3 final week against rival Florida and Syracuse. Coach Lonni Alameda boasts the nation’s sixth-ranked offense at 7.74 runs per game, spurred by freshman phenom Jaysoni Beachum (.443 average and 63 RBIs, both best in the ACC).
FSU’s first opponent is Notre Dame (27-22, 9-15), who beat North Carolina 7-4 in Wednesday’s first round. The Fighting Irish have hit the fewest home runs in the ACC (28) and have the third-worst team ERA in the conference (4.55), although pitcher Alexis Laudenslager is fifth with 131 strikeouts. FSU swept their three-game series in mid-April by a combined score of 23-7.
