The Hope College baseball team lost to Adrian College, 11-3, on Friday at Boeve Baseball Stadium.

Game 2 on Friday’s double header was not completed and Game 3 in the series at Adrian was canceled, MIAA Commission Dr. Chris Brown announced.

Read the MIAA’s statement below:

“We want to address the unfortunate incident that occurred during today’s doubleheader between Adrian College and Hope College. During the second game, a collision between players resulted in both teams’ benches clearing onto the field. The act of leaving the dugout automatically results in ejection and a one-game suspension, according to NCAA rules.

As a result, and in accordance with NCAA rules, both teams will forfeit their next scheduled contest. Therefore, tomorrow’s game between Adrian College and Hope College is canceled and will be recorded as a forfeit for both teams. Additionally, Friday’s contest has been declared a double-forfeit since the game could not continue.

We understand the disappointment this may cause for the players, coaches, and fans. However, the MIAA is committed to upholding the rules and regulations that govern our conference and ensuring the safety and well-being of our student-athletes.

Incidents like these serve as a reminder of the importance of sportsmanship and respect for our opponents. We encourage all our member schools to use this as an opportunity to reflect on these values and to foster a positive and competitive environment both on and off the field.”

Commissioner Brown
