The Captain, the rat and the little ball of hate – one man terrorizing all of Toronto

--

Brad Marchand is the last Bruins player from the Bears team that won the Stanley Cup in 2011. Now, at the age of 35, he’s ready to do it again, using legal and illegal techniques. When a poll of all 392 NHL players was conducted in 2020 about the league’s “dirtiest” player, Marchan won by a convincing margin, or 29.3 percent of the vote. He was also given the first place for “trash talk”, or the so-called dirty conversations, various insults and comments. A player that every team only wants in their dressing room. Not for nothing, outside of the Bruins, one of his nicknames is the rat. Not the most pleasant animal that can intimidate many. Marchand does. He talks, elbows, pokes the stick in the crotch, kicks the base under the opponent’s feet from behind, pushes on the sideline, hits the goalkeeper on the head with the stick and even kisses his opponent. This is an incomplete number of various offenses of Marchan, for which he received eight suspensions of varying duration during his career. The most among all NHL players, losing more than a million dollars during this downtime. This is the path that Marchans chose to compensate for his not so great height (only 1.75 meters) parameters. When, in the summer of 2011, the Bruins were accepted by the President of the United States at the White House as the winners of the Stanley Cup, Barack Obama gave this player another nice and memorable nickname – the Little Ball of Hate.
