The Swedish hockey team will also be represented at the upcoming world championship by Lukas Raymond, the leader of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL), according to several media.
22-year-old Raymond became the Red Wings’ top scorer in the past NHL regular season. He scored 72 (31+41) points in 82 games. It should be noted that in the previous year’s World Championship, he scored two goals and six assists in eight matches.
Therefore, Sweden already has 14 NHL players before the World Championship. Buffalo Sabers hockey players Rasmus Dalins and Viktor Olofsson, Pittsburgh Penguins representatives Erik Karlsson and Markus Johansson, as well as Andre Burakovskis from Seattle Kraken have already joined the national team.
The national team also has Philadelphia Flyers puck catcher Samuel Ersson, as well as Minnesota Wild players goalkeepers Filip Gustavsson and Jesper Valstedt, defender Jonas Brodin, as well as forwards Joel Eriksson Eck and Markus Johansson. Sweden will also be represented at this year’s WC by Fabian Setterlund (San Jose Sharks) and Izak Lundström (Anaheim Ducks).
Sweden will play in Group B with Latvia, USA, Germany, Slovakia, France, Kazakhstan and Poland at the World Championship. It should be reminded that last year Latvia defeated Sweden in the 1/4 finals, overcoming this tournament barrier for the first time in history.
