The 22-year-old forward Raivis Ansons, who signed a contract with the Pittsburgh “Penguins” club of the National Hockey League (NHL) two years ago, has not yet made his debut in the Latvian national team, but has represented youth and junior national teams. He will go on the ice in Tuesday’s training, the general manager of the Latvian national team Rūdolfs Kalvītis told Sportacentrs.com.

Anson has spent the last two seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL). This season, he scored two goals and five assists in 34 games. Recovering from injury, he was sent to the ECHL, where he had three points in eight games. If earlier Ansons played as a winger, he has become a center in the AHL.

In the 2020 NHL draft, “Penguins” selected Anson in the fifth round with number 149.

On Tuesday, Miks Indrašis will also join the training of the Latvian national team, while Kārlis Čukste will go on the ice on Wednesday. A year ago, both helped Latvia win bronze medals. Indrašis scored two goals and accumulated six points in ten games, while Čukste spent 19:56 minutes on the ice in the quarterfinal victory against the Swedes.

Indrašis and Čukste’s zero helped “Brynas” triumph in Sweden’s second strongest league and get a ticket to the highest level.

The Latvian national team will play the last test matches on May 3 and 4, hosting the Norwegians in Riga. The first match of the World Championship awaits on May 11 against the Polish national team.
