Latvia took the lead in the 14th minute, when Agnese Apsīte scored after passes from Linda Rulle and Anna Lagzdiņa. Gaja Pezdira scored the equalizer in the 22nd minute in a counter attack. In the 27th minute, Latvia took the lead again. After a pass from Kjara Paula Želubovska, Ksenia Kezika shot from the blue line on the left side of the field, but goalkeeper Pia Dukaricha hit the puck on Anna Lagzdiņa’s stick, who sent it into the goal from the right side – 2:1.

3:1 after a solo move in the 31st minute, team captain Līga Miljone scored. On the opponent’s side of the field from the right, bypassing the opponent on the way, he moved to the middle of the field and sent the puck into the upper left corner of the goal. Assists were credited to Krista Jipčaka and Karina Šilajana.

Only 63 seconds later, the Slovenians reduced the deficit by scoring Arvena Nīlander – 3:2 in favor of Latvia. Eight seconds before the break, the Slovenians equalized the result. Nadja Vakaricic scored with a shot from the blue line during the rejection earned by Madara Saulite – 3:3.

No goals were scored in the remaining time of the game and in overtime, the last 28 seconds of which were mostly played by Latvia.

In the first series of shots after the game, Miljones’ shot was saved by Dukarica, but Apsite was superior to Nylander in the goal. In the second series, Rulle threw the puck between the opponents’ goalkeeper’s legs, but Apsite was unbeatable in the goal. In the third series, Agnese Apsite missed the goal, but Sara Konfidenti equalized. She also scored a goal with the awkward side of the stick in the sixth series, but Miljonei failed to beat the goalkeeper, as the Latvian team suffered a loss.

Miljone and Konfidenti were recognized as the best in their teams.

On Sunday, in the first match of the championship, the Latvians lost to Slovakia with a score of 1:7, but on Monday they beat Italy with a score of 3:2. Slovenian hockey players started the tournament with a victory over Poland (4:1) and a loss to Slovakia (0:4).

The Latvian national team will meet Poland on April 5 and Great Britain on April 6.
