In order to promote public initiatives and activities of public benefit in Valmiera region, the municipality has been holding a contest for citizens’ initiative projects for the third year. It promotes cooperation between the municipality and informal population groups, civil society organizations, and also attracts local resources and volunteer work in solving socially important needs.

This year project applications will be expected from 2024 April 2 up to April 23. The total amount of funding for the 2024 competition – 20,000 euros.

What should you know about the citizens’ initiative project competition?

  • The project supported by the competition activities are implemented by the project applicant.
  • The amount of funding requested from the municipality in the project cannot be greater than 1000.00 eurosincluding value added tax (VAT).
  • The applicant may invest his own co-financing for the implementation of the project, but the applicant’s financing may not be the budget funds of the local government institution.
  • Funding will be allocated to projects whose activities take place in the administrative territory of Valmiera region and whose results are the residents of Valmiera region.

Citizen initiatives tend to be very diverse, such as self-defence classes, creative workshops, local history research and storytelling afternoons, traditional skills preservation and learning workshops, public outdoor space improvements, children’s play equipment installation and other projects important to communities. In order to successfully prepare for the submission of citizens’ initiative projects, this year on April 8 at 17.00 in the hall on the 2nd floor of the Valmiera library, Cēsu street 4, Valmiera we invite you to an informative seminar on the planning of such projects, the preparation of applications and the implementation of projects. We invite you to contact us if you need additional support and information, but participation in the informative seminar in Valmiera is not possible.
