Today, on March 28, the composition of the Latvian national women’s ice hockey team was announced for the participation of the Women’s World Ice Hockey Championship, Division I, Group B, which will take place in Riga, the capital of Latvia.

The championship will start from 31.03.2024. until 06.04.2024 Volvo Ice Hall, Riga, Latvia. As part of the tournament, the Latvian women’s hockey team will fight for entry into Group A of Division I.

In addition to the host Latvia, the national women’s teams of Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Great Britain and Slovenia will also participate in the tournament. The Latvian national team will play its first match at the World Championship on March 31 against the strong Slovakian team, which ranks 16th in the world ranking. Our national team will face Italy on April 1, Slovenia on April 3, Poland on April 5 and Great Britain on April 6.

“Spring will always be associated with exciting, emotional and historical hockey events for Latvian sports fans. We are very happy that this season will be even more special, because very soon the Women’s Ice Hockey Championship will take place in Riga. The Latvian Hockey Federation has invested a lot of work in order for the tournament to be held at the highest level. We wish all participants and fans to experience great and unforgettable emotions. Thank you very much for the support of the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM), the Riga City Council (RD) and the company AS Olainfarm,” says LHF president Aigars Kalvītis.

“One of the harbingers of spring in Latvia has traditionally been the matches of the Latvian national hockey team. We are glad that we provide equal opportunities in both women’s and men’s hockey. I wish the Latvian women’s national team and the entire support team unity, luck and success!” says Minister of Education and Science Anda Čakša.

“Riga is honored to become the capital of ice hockey – it was like that last year, when the men of our national team fought for medals in the ice arenas in Riga and Tampere, and it will be like this again this year, when Riga will host the teams of the Women’s World Ice Hockey Championship. Latvia, with its women’s hockey team, first presented itself at the international level more than 30 years ago, the team has always had a powerful team spirit throughout the years, and I wish our ladies an excellent start in the upcoming hockey championship!” says Vilnis Ķirsis, chairman of the Riga City Council.

“Winners are not determined by their strength, but by zeal, perseverance and invested work. We, “Olainfarm”, are happy to be together with the Latvian women’s national team and support the World Championship in Latvia, Riga. We invite everyone to join us and be with Latvian ice hockey players also in person, giving them the much-needed energy of the sixth player on the field! Together, waiting for the hockey spring in Latvia, we will help the Latvian women’s national team to hold the exciting championship with an excellent performance, because we know that we have the winning chemistry!” invites JSC “Olainfarm” board chairman Juris Bundulis.
