The dismantling stage of the Riga Wagner Theater building has ended, as well as the technical project of the building has been completed, the representatives of the Riga Richard Wagner Society (RRVB) informed the agency LETA.

The association states that the detailed development of the interior is currently ongoing and the next stage of the project will begin soon – the works of strengthening the foundation of the house or installing piles.

Dismantling covered a wide range of works – dismantled chandeliers, historic stoves, parquet, windows, doors and other interior elements, which were handed over for restoration and will return to the building after reconstruction. Also, the partition walls were demolished, as well as the existing heating line was dismantled and a temporary heating line was installed, so that the adjacent buildings would not be left without heat supply during the construction works, according to RRVB representatives.

The association notes that an important part of the project is the detailing and interior development, adding that work is currently underway on the creation of the Wagner Theater library, which will occupy the central space on the facade of Wagner Street, and the five-meter high walls of the hall will be occupied by bookshelves up to the ceiling.

The next stage of the works will begin with strengthening the foundations of the building and construction of the basement. It is planned that the construction works will last three years and the Riga Wagner Theater will be opened in the fall of 2027.

RRVB explains that by renovating the Wagner Theatre, a number of important benefits will be achieved, which will not only promote the diversity and availability of cultural events for Latvian residents, but also strengthen the image of Riga and Latvia as a cultural center and the connection with Richard Wagner, who lived in this house for two years (1837 -1839) was a Kapellmeister. The project plans not only to restore the building and the theater hall, but also to create master classes and a Wagner museum.

The house will realize Wagner’s vision “GesamtkunstWerk21” – an incubator for all forms of art.

It has already been reported that the main contractor of the construction works is the association of persons “SBSC and 3A” with the main designer SIA “Sarma und Norde Arhitekti”, while the duties of the engineer and construction supervision are performed by SIA “Būves und būvsistemas”. “Zaigas Gailes office” was hired as a subcontractor for the development of architecture and interiors.

Experts from other countries are also involved, for example theater technology solutions are developed by “Theater Advies” from the Netherlands, while specialists from “Nagata Acoustics” under the leadership of Yasuhisa Toyota, who participated in the design of the Elba Philharmonic and the Paris Philharmonic, as well as many others, act as consultants in theater acoustics. in notable projects.

The project “Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Riga’s Wagner House”, Riharda Vagnera Street 4, Riga, by renovating and restoring Riga’s Wagner House” is supported by the Emission Quota Auction Instrument, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the German Embassy in Riga and the Riga City Council.
