--

Margita Auer’s book “School of Magical Beasts” is about a magical school that keeps secrets. The lucky one gets the best friend in the world – a magical scale that can talk, as long as it’s yours.

“Ida studies at school. She doesn’t feel well. Teacher Miss Kornfield tells the children about a magical zoo shop. Ida receives a magical beast, namely the charming fox Rabat,” says Māris.

The book features multiple characters, both Miss Cornfield and Mr. Mortimer Morrison, Mr. Morrison’s omnibus, and Pinky and Miss Cornfield’s class of 24 students.

“Which of the children, the ambitious Ida, the conceited Joe, the dreamer Benny, the shy Anna, the clumsy Eddie as well as the pointy-nosed Helena, needs the magical beast the most, we find out by reading the book,” says Māris and adds that all of this is supplemented with illustrations by Nina Dullek. which helps the little tots to understand the stories.

The book is about the Winter Stone School, which is like an ordinary school, but it has many different secrets and miracles.

“Ziemakmens school teacher Miss Kornfield is sometimes a bit strict, but she gets along very well with her students and clearly knows which of them needs help,” says Māris.

The listeners of “Star FM” “Readers’ club” also shared their childhood memories.

Maris contacted Renati Punka, head of the Jāņa Rozes publishing house, to talk about reading books, which Punka compares to alternative exercise, only in the head.

“Both adults and children need to read. The recommendation is to set aside 20, 30 minutes a day for reading, but specifically for reading books. “Training the gray cells is not so good with reading news headlines, and the pleasure from it, in my opinion, is less than from enthusiastically reading a book,” says Punka.
