Today, May Count’s holiday has become a traditional family holiday. It is a fun festival-carnival for those who love fairy tales, history, fun and are open to creativity and fantasy.
The festival has become an open creative platform where many Latvian and foreign collectives, singers and performers, dancers and artists can show their work to the audience. Free attractions, tournaments for children and adults, tasks and games make the festival an interesting place for family holidays.
The feast of May Count is also a carnival, where you can not only dress up in fancy dress, but also come and participate in the festive procession. It is also an annual costume contest where costume masters of different styles and eras compete for first place. On the other hand, in the arena of knights’ battles, the festival organizers and guests will find out who will become the Count of May this year.
“May Count’s Feast” is not a commercial project, so most of all activities are free and open to everyone. Every year, the festival is visited by children from orphanages, for whom the May Count’s holiday is like a fairy tale that they look forward to all year round.
The festival has been organized by volunteers for 14 years. The youngest festival volunteer is 10 years old this year, the oldest is 75 years old. Every year, more than 60 volunteers help to create the festival – caring people with a big heart and the desire to give a holiday to their beloved Riga.
The main goal of the festival is to unite eras, cultures and people, to create a place where creativity and belief in miracles are encouraged, and good always wins over evil. This festival brings together people of different generations and different beliefs, but with a common belief in goodness and miracles. And as we know, the best miracles are the ones we create ourselves.
