Thursday, April 4, at At 5:00 p.m., the exhibition of contemporary art author Kriš Salmani’s “Elephants Captivated by Inaction” will be opened in the exhibition hall on the 1st floor of the National Library of Latvia (LNB), LNB representatives inform the “Delfi” portal. In the process of researching the exhibition, the artist met with various library specialists – indexers, art collection custodians, book historians and others.

“Our task was to create a work of art about the information systems of the library,” Salmanis reveals about the concept of the exhibition. “There are several, mostly electronic, and they work well. But we chose our own, not very clear system. It’s inefficient, but interesting. There are some finds in this exhibition.”

“In the model of Kris Salmani’s library, we see challenges and paradoxes that tempt us to remember the story “The Library of Babel” by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986). The library is in constant motion, it changes with the world. New items enter its registers, what books are written down, card catalogs are disappearing because new systems are emerging to search and find what is needed. Nothing is perfect in a library, it is alive, eternal and full of human weaknesses,” describes the exhibition’s curator Anda Boluža.
