Friday, April 12, at At 19.00, the concert hall “Latvija” will perform the first concert of this year’s “Jams with Ventspils Big Band” series, the special guests of which will be the Dutch trombonist Ilja Reijngouds, well-known in the jazz world, and the singer Ance Jankovska.

In the concert in the Small Hall, original compositions and original arrangements of Ilya Rejngouda will be played, in which a special place is reserved for the sounds of the trombone. The “Jam” concert program is always based on African-American rhythms with the harmony and melodic language characteristic of jazz music, highlighting the wide playing possibilities of the big band composition.

Trombonist, arranger and composer Ilya Reijngoud graduated with honors from the Amsterdam Conservatory, completed his master’s studies in the USA. In parallel with his work as a teacher at the Rotterdam and Amsterdam conservatories, Reijngoud not only leads the big bands of both conservatories, but is also a member of several popular jazz ensembles in the Netherlands. He has performed as a guest soloist with world-famous orchestras and musical groups, and has also given countless master classes in many places around the world. As a composer and arranger, he won several prestigious music awards – “Edison Jazz Award”, “Latin Grammy” and others.

“The trombone has all the qualities to be equally well suited to classical and modern music. It has a fantastically full sound, is easy to play in both the high and low registers, and has a warm sound with plenty of harmonic potential. The trombone is a very flexible and fast instrument,” Reijngoud explains about the choice of his musical instrument.

Ance Jankovska is a jazz singer and vocal teacher at the Ventspils Music High School. In 2022, she graduated from the Jāzeps Vītolas Academy of Music of Latvia and improved her knowledge in master classes with various professionals in the field. The young singer has collaborated with many local musicians, such as Uldi Marhilēvičas, Linda Leen, Ralfs Eiland, Intar Busulis, Laimas Vaikulis, Zigmaras Liepiņas, as well as performed with Ventspils Big Band and Ventspils Chamber Orchestra.

About his musical experience, Ance adds: “I perform in various ensembles, performing jazz, popular music and my own original compositions, but the greatest happiness is singing with a large backing ensemble.”

The concert is organized by SIA “Kurzemes Philharmonija”, supported by the municipality of Ventspils. Tickets are available at the ticket offices of the “Bilešu paradīze” sales network and on the Internet.

We inform you that photography and video recording is possible during the event. The obtained materials will be used for publicity purposes of the event, on the website and social network accounts of the “Latvija” concert hall.
