In the Liepāja theater, costumes, decorations, props and other materials are not thrown away after productions, but are reused, electric cars have been in use there for almost ten years, and at least 5,000 batteries are no longer used to power the actors’ microphones. These are some of the habits of sustainable management of the Liepaja theater, which will be announced in the first of a total of 25 video story episodes in the new series of programs “We do it this way”. The programs will be hosted by actress and costume designer Madara Botmane and will be shown on ReTV from April 8, introducing the daily habits of a planet-friendly lifestyle in Latvian communities, communes, collectives, neighborhoods and homes of multi-generational families.

“Communities that bring together neighbors, families, people of different generations and enthusiasts of related interests inspire with their examples of how to ‘think and live green’. We want to show that taking care of our planet is not burdensome and that everyone can find the most suitable and convenient way to live a healthier and more environmentally friendly life, giving it even more power when implemented together with fellow human beings, a commune or a collective,” says the head of VFS FILMS and producer Uldis Cekulis.

Each of the video stories will follow the daily routine of the main characters, paying special attention to their embedded green lifestyle routine, which is related to management at home, work and garden, sorting waste, choosing energy sources and transport, eating habits, organizing work duties and rest. They will allow you to see, for example, the daily life of the representatives of the largest neighborhood association in Riga, who take care of the creation of a green and well-maintained outdoor space in Grīziņkalni, as well as the households of Pierīga district, evaluating the efficiency and environmental friendliness of different types of heating, the management habits of various artists, etc.

“We do it” will also introduce a commune that lives in the center of the capital and where it is respected both to play music and hold board game nights, and to take care of our planet. “To me, living green means that I think and care about not leaving a burnt and overconsumed world for humanity. I buy local food, thus reducing transport pollution. I don’t buy things that break after a few uses, I take care of energy-efficient solutions and give things a second life, trying to use what is available,” says Kristaps Krolls, the main owner of the “Buratino theater” commune, a percussionist and the head of the economic department of the Kanipe Cultural Center.

In general, the new series of programs “We do it” will invite the public to change their daily habits in favor of an environmentally friendly lifestyle, so that more and more residents do not perceive it as an obligation, but are inspired by the lifestyle example of their contemporaries. At the same time, it will in an attractive way promote awareness of environmentally friendly behavior and the skills to apply it in everyday life, stimulating the necessary change in social norms of society in the implementation of a sustainable lifestyle.

“We do it” video stories are a continuation of the lifestyle experience exchange campaign “I do it!”, in which more than 90 inspiring video stories created by VFS FILMS were created about Latvian people who have found their formula for an environmentally friendly lifestyle. The series of programs “We do it this way” is implemented by VFS FILMS with the financial support of the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund, and its broadcast on the ReTv channel will be provided by “Re Media”.
