The experts interviewed by “Yle” express concern that the incident could lead to a sharp discussion about changing the age of criminal responsibility.

It has already been reported that a student opened fire from a firearm at a school in Vantaa, a suburb of Helsinki, on Tuesday, killing one schoolmate and injuring two, Finnish police said.

Law enforcement officers received a call to the scene at 9.08 in the morning. An investigation is currently underway.

The attacker ran away from the school and the police arrested him in Helsinki. Both the shooter and the injured are 12 years old. Parents of school students told reporters that the attacker opened fire in the classroom.

At first it was reported that three were injured, but later the police informed that one of the injured had died.

Witnesses are asked to stay away from the school grounds. According to the police, unknown persons are not allowed in the school. At the school, learning takes place in Liliatia and Jokiranta learning centers. The police informs that the shooting took place at the Jokiranta training center.

Vice Mayor of Vantaa Katri Kalske has confirmed that the city’s crisis management council has come to the meeting.

About 800 students study in Viertola elementary school, it has nine classes.
