“”I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it’s with a broken heart that we lost a fan tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how much it’s breaking me. I have very little information except that she was so unbelievably beautiful and too young,” Swift says.
Swift says her condolences and sympathies to the girl’s family and friends.
The singer has canceled the concert scheduled for November 19 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
The 23-year-old fan collapsed shortly before the start of the concert on Friday and was taken to hospital, where she died.
Swift announced the cancellation of Saturday’s concert after crowds had already started arriving at the stadium, saying the health and safety of her fans and staff was her top priority.
On Friday, the temperature in Rio de Janeiro exceeded 39 degrees, but on Saturday the thermometer rose above 42 degrees Celsius. The high humidity makes the heat even more unbearable.
According to the rules of the concert, visitors are forbidden to bring bottles of water, but now the municipality of Rio de Janeiro promises to provide free drinking water at mass events.
Swift’s next concert in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled for Monday, has not yet been canceled.
