“In the countryside, or in Antarctica, or anywhere on earth, our main factors that determine our behavior and feeling are these emotions and thoughts here, and their connection. And in this case, if we talk about addictions, they are still defined as diseases of feelings,” said narcologist Ilze Maksima in the TV24 program “Dr. Apinis”, discussing addictions to alcohol and various substances.

“So something is either born and formed in me, or something is missing. And then I started looking for what was missing, what was needed. And often that quick fix that is someone’s profit or ignorance is given the chance to help. But basically there are these emotional difficulties – psycho-emotional comfort, summarizing under it everything we mean by it,” explained narcologist Maksima.

For example, if a child lives in a family of alcohol or other drug users, then in this case it is clear that the parents are busy with their own problems, as well as with the ritual of their use and the consequences associated with it.

“However, the child feels bad – unheard, unfelt, unsupported in a sense, because the main role of parents cannot always be fulfilled despite the difficulties of the parents themselves. And at that moment, a child who has no concept of life to understand what I can choose and what I can’t, he really can get lost And these are the main reasons why that street can come with its offer and the consent takes place,” Maksima emphasized in the TV24 program “Dr. Apinis”, speaking about the causes and consequences of addictions.

On the other hand, if parents seek treatment and “awaken their critical thinking”, the child will have new ideas about how he can help himself. “Because the main aspects are these people who are the main people of that person [bērna] in life,” said narcologist Maxima, talking about the psychological problems of both adults and children, including the emergence of various addictions.
