The first round of “Tonybet Virsliga” will end with matches in Daugavpils and Jelgava

Today, two matches will be held in Daugavpils and Jelgava in the last, ninth round of the first round of the “Tonybet” Latvian football superleague.

“Daugavpils” and “Liepāja” will meet on the artificial field of “Esplanāde” stadium at 2 p.m., today’s matches will be broadcast live on TV4 channel. Both teams have surprised with their performance in the first round of the season – “Daugavpils” is positive because it is close to the top of the tournament, while “Liepāja” is negative because it is in the penultimate position.

Accumulated warnings will prevent “Liepāja” defender Važas Pacacis from going to the field today. In the previous season, the four games between these teams all ended with a one-goal difference, the first three were won by the Kurzemen, and the fourth by the Latgalians.

Two hours later, “Jelgava” will host debutants “Grobiņa”/LFS on the artificial field of the sports base of the club. “Jelgava” won their first victory of the season in the previous round, beating their direct competitor “Liepāja”, but the Zemgalians, who are playing their second season in the Super League, are still in the last position. “Grobiņa”/LFS team has two victories – both over “Metta” and “Liepājas” teams, which are lower in the tournament table.

On Friday, the ninth round started with a duel in which “Auda” won 3:1 against “Metta” team. On Saturday, in the Riga derby, RFS beat the “Riga” team 2:1 away, and “Valmiera” won the same result over the “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” team away from home.

RFS takes the first place with 22 points in nine games, followed by “Riga” with 18 points. “Valmiera” is next with 16 points in nine matches, followed by “Daugavpils” and “Auda” with 14 points, which have played eight and nine games, respectively, while “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” have scored 13 points. The seventh place is occupied by “Grobiņa”/LFS with eight points, seven points were scored by “Metta”, six by “Liepāja”, and five by “Jelgava”.

The Premier League championship with the participation of ten teams takes place in four rounds, with each team playing 36 games. 180 games are expected to be played until November 9.

Last season, RFS became the champion for the second time, which secured victory only in the last round, winning over “Metta” team with 1:0.
