“Mogo/LSPA” won the postgame shootout in the fourth match of the “Optibet” Hockey League (OHL) final series on Tuesday and came one success away from the championship title. “Mogo/LSPA” beat “Zemgale/LBTU” in the penalty shootout with a score of 4:3 at home and reached 3-1 in the series to four victories.

David Sarkanis put the hosts in the lead after less than nine minutes in the first third, but 51 seconds later Richards Bernhards equalized the score. 21 seconds later, Renarts Bērziņš regained the one-goal lead for “Mogo/LSPA”, who, while executing a long shot, hit one of the visiting players’ skates, after which the puck went into the Jelgava team’s goal.

In the 33rd minute of the match, Kevin Strādnieks scored another draw, while four minutes later, Kārlis Bucenieks led the “Zemgale/LBTU” team for the first time. In the middle of the final third, the score was tied again when Krister Anson beat the visiting goalkeeper Rihard Zimmerman.

As the overtime ended without a goal, Kārlis Ozoliņš, Gints Meija and Elviss Želubovskis stood out in the post-game shooting series for “Mogo/LSPA” with accurate shots, while only Strādnieks beat the home goalkeeper Linards Feldberg from the “Zemgale/LBTU” players.

Both teams will compete in Jelgava on April 4, but the remaining games, if necessary, will be played on April 6 in Riga and April 8 in Jelgava. In the first final match, Riga won 3-2 away, while in the second match, Jelgava won at home with 1-0. In the third match, “Mogo/LSPA” regained the lead in the series, winning at home with 3:1.

The current champion “Zemgale/LBTU” defeated Riga “Prizma” 4-0 in the semi-final series, while “Mogo/LSPA” beat the hockey players of “Kurbads” 4-0 in the series. This season, in the mutual games between the two finalists, Jelgavniki won the first two matches of the main tournament with 2:1 and 5:1, but in the last two games, Riga hockey players were superior with 3:1 and 2:1.
