The Latvian men’s curling team defeated Poland in the last end of the B division match of the European Curling Championship in Great Britain on Monday.

The Latvian national team with skipper Mārtiņas Trukšanas, as well as Jānis Klīvi, Aivaras Avotiņa and Sandri Buholcs won with 6:5.

As the teams played the first end without scoring points, in the next three Latvia won a point each, taking the lead with 3:0. However, the Poles responded with two points each in the next two ends to take a 4-3 lead.

In the seventh end, the Latvians achieved a draw, but in the ninth, the Poles restored a one-point advantage – 5:4.

However, after scoring two points in the last end, the Latvian foursome celebrated the victory.

With three wins in four games, Latvia ranks second among eight teams in Group A.

It has already been reported that previously Latvian curlers defeated Belgium with 8:6, lost to Denmark with 4:11 and beat Portugal with 11:3.

Latvians will meet Estonia on Tuesday, Hungary on Wednesday, and France on Thursday in Perth.

Last year, the Latvians finished in fourth place in the B division.

The Latvian women’s national team is also playing in the B division tournament of the European Championship in Perth, which beat Slovenia 8:1 on Monday and will meet Slovakia at 18:00 Latvian time.
