“Yesterday [pret Poliju] was more difficult than today [pret Franciju]. I thought to myself to play champi it’s not the same as playing in the NHL,” admitted Merzlikin. “It sounds strange, but champi you play for the whole country and the fans who have come. I understand that after covid it is not easy for many materially and the fact that they find money, come here and support us is very pleasant and cool.”

“The NHL is different, and here already in the first game it was abnormally loud. I’m not used to it [spēlēt pie tāda atbalsta] to play, my legs and hands were shaking,” the goalkeeper said. “Latvia had fantastic support today and it helps us a lot. We need it and we will continue.”
