This happened a few hours after the organization had delivered a new aid shipment to the northern Gaza Strip.
Six foreign aid mission workers and their Palestinian driver were killed, WCK said.
Among the seven killed were citizens of Australia, Poland and Britain, as well as a dual citizen of the United States and Canada, the organization said.
“It’s a tragedy. Humanitarian aid mission personnel and civilians should never be targeted. Never,” WCK press representative Linda Roth confirmed in a statement.
The US-headquartered organization is temporarily “suspending operations in the region,” WCK said.
“Today, the World Central Kitchen organization Israel lost several of their sisters and brothers in an army strike in Gaza,” said the founder of the organization, José Andrés, soon after the incident.
Israel The army said it was “conducting a thorough investigation at the highest level to understand the circumstances of this tragic incident”.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed on Tuesday that one of the dead was Australian citizen Zomie Francom.
Francois did “extremely valuable work” in helping to deliver food to the Gaza Strip, the prime minister said, stressing that Australia would seek to see those responsible identified and brought to justice.
On the other hand, the press representative of the National Security Council of the US presidential administration, Adrien Watson, confirmed on the “X” platform that “we are saddened and deeply disturbed by this attack”.
“Humanitarian mission workers, when they deliver urgently needed aid, must be protected and we encourage that Israel investigate the incident without delay,” the White House spokeswoman said.
