On Friday, May 10, the long-time director of Nereta Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš Secondary School, former president of the Latvian Educational Leaders Association (LIVA), Laima Grebska, died, LETA agency was informed by Nereta Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš Secondary School.

Grebska was born on August 7, 1950 in Skruži, Pilskalne parish. In 1968, after graduating from Nereta High School, she worked at Vigante Elementary School, Jēkabpils pioneer house, and in 1973 she started working at Nereta’s Jānis Jaunsudrabiņa High School as a leader of pioneers, extracurricular work organizers. In 1981, she graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Latvia, but from 1986 to 2020 she was the principal of a secondary school.

Grebska has also led the Methodical Association of School Directors of Nereta Region, the regional creativity center and the regional adult education center, actively, creatively and responsibly working as a member of the Higher Education Council, the board of the Latvian Intelligence Association, LIVA and elsewhere. From 1998 to 2000, Laima Grebska was also the president of LIVA.

She is actively involved in the public life of the county. She was a member of the Nereta County Council, with the initiative she worked in finance, culture, education and sports committees. Actively participated in the organization and management of Nereta’s cultural events, led the national dance teams of Nereta’s Jānis Jaunsudrabiņa Secondary School and Nereta Parish, which regularly participated in regional and national dance festivals.

Also, Grebska was the initiator in the organization of World Latvian Families 3×3 camps in Neret.

For her contribution to education and public work, Grebska has received both certificates of appreciation and awards. In 2002 – Award of the Cabinet of Ministers, in 2008 the highest award of the state – Cross of Appreciation, in 2023 – Award of the Friendly Invitation Fund for lifetime contribution to education.

The removal will take place on May 18 at 12 noon from Nereta’s Jānis Jaunsudrabiņa secondary school to the Ķiški cemetery.
