On Saturday, the seventeenth Great Cleanup was successfully held throughout Latvia. According to the information of the organizers, a high response and involvement of residents was observed in 1149 cleaning sites. On this occasion, both garbage collection and beautification, as well as cleaning of basements, were carried out.

In nature, the scavengers found tires, furniture, construction debris, various household items, as well as quite a few metal objects, tires and bottles lifted from the water. On the other hand, a large-format painting, about 40 lamp televisions were found in the cleaning of basements in Riga, and a bar installed at an unknown time was demolished in the shelter of Siegfried Anna Meierovics. Various household items and a gas mask were found in the cellars in Ogre. Young Guardsmen, National Guardsmen, as well as soldiers of NATO allied forces also participated in the talks.

“It is a great pleasure to see that fellow human beings inspire each other to do good deeds – you could feel it today while cleaning, and it inspires. We Latvians need such gatherings, they are especially important at times when it seems that the world around us is changing too rapidly. We are able to inspire each other, help and maintain hope and inner strength,” emphasized Vita Jaunzeme, head of the Great Cleanup.

“Sincere thanks to everyone who went to clean up today and to everyone who takes care of our land and the nature around us on a daily basis! A special greeting and thanks to all the municipal cleanup coordinators, who take care of the Great Cleanup in the municipalities on a voluntary basis every year. “
