The ceramic works of experienced, professional ceramicists and teachers of the department, as well as future artists, will be on display at the exhibition. In total, 19 authors will participate in the exhibition, which is the largest number of artists exhibited in the art space at the same time.

Exhibition Neutral zone An imaginary transit zone of the airport is created in the heart of Old Riga, in this way playing with the name of the gallery and giving the artists’ works the potential of new meanings. Diagnostics of the ceramic medium against the background of a neutral space – airport or gallery – becomes a map characterizing its time and place, and each of the works becomes an individual travel card or flight ticket for its access. Seeking to feel the boundaries between art and craft, tradition and the new, the artist’s vision and technology, the exhibition reveals ceramics as an active interaction or transit zone, as tactile as it is imaginary.

“When the airplane rises higher and higher and flies faster and faster, its meaning as an object changes – one could even say it changes to the opposite. [..] Our idea of flight is gradually losing its meaning as speed through space, a new meaning is emerging based on time as an instant.” (R. Smithson, Preparing the site for the airport, 1967)

As part of the public program of the exhibition, a public discussion is planned – a dialogue between ceramicists Ingūnas Skuja and Melissa Breyden (Needle Braden) and students of the department about the relevance of the medium in the Latvian and international art scene.
