The national team’s head coach Harijs Vītoliņš stated in the morning news program “900 seconds” that he is currently trying not to talk or mention the bronze medals won in the dressing room, because there is hard work ahead: “The medals won will not give us points this year and we will have to win everything again.”

Latvian hockey players are scheduled to play six test matches at home and two away this spring. On April 4 and 5, the games with Austria will take place behind closed doors at the Daugava Ice Hall.

On April 10 and 11, “Arena Riga” will host matches with Finland, meanwhile, on April 26 and 27, away matches with Switzerland will take place. On the other hand, on May 3 and 4, the preparatory cycle will end with test matches against Norway.

In the Latvian national team, the head coach Harijs Vītoliņš is assisted this year by coaches Lauris Dārziņš, Artūrs Irbe, Petri Nummelins, Ville Peltonens, Raimonds Vilkoits, video coach Pēteris Groms and physical training specialist Āriks Visockis.

This year’s world hockey championship will be held in the Czech cities of Prague and Ostrava from May 10 to 26. Latvian hockey players will play in one group against the national teams of France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden and the USA.
