Forecasters warn: on Wednesday, the rain will turn into snowfall; a storm is also expected in parts of Latvia

Early Wednesday morning, the air temperature in Latvia is +2..+6 degrees, in the extreme east up to +8 degrees, and the temperature continues to fall, according to the data of the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĜMC).

The air quality has become good and very good. In Riga, PM10 concentration has decreased almost to zero.

The sky is overcast, there is light rain and haze in many places, but in the eastern part of the country it is raining heavily, with lightning and dozens of thunder. At five o’clock in the morning, a thunderstorm cloud appeared between Jēkabpilis and Madona, a little earlier there was lightning between Dagda and Zilupi, while at midnight a thunderstorm hit Daugavpils, Krāslava and other places in Latgale.

During the day, rain is expected in Latvia, which will change to snow, in places in the central and eastern parts of the country, precipitation will be heavy, forecasters warn.

A thunderstorm with intense rains, hail is possible in some places in the eastern regions.

West and north wind will blow with gusts up to 10-15 meters per second, in some places on the coast – up to 20 meters per second.

The air temperature will drop and in the evening it will be -2..+2 degrees. A snow cover will form in some places, it is expected in the evening in many parts of the country; roads will become slippery.

Rain is expected in Riga, which will turn into snowfall. The speed of the north, northwest wind will increase to 18 meters per second in gusts. The air temperature will drop to 0..+1 degrees.

The weather is determined by a strong cyclone moving towards the east. Along the western edge of the cyclone, cool air flows into Latvia from Scandinavia, where cold records have been broken. Atmospheric pressure in Latvia is 983-990 hectopascals at sea level.

The maximum air temperature on Tuesday in the LVĜMC observation network was from +6.1 degrees in Kolka to +23.1 degrees in Daugavpils, which is the new heat record for the first decade of the month in Latvia.

The highest air temperature in Europe on April 2 was +31 degrees in Greece and +33 degrees in Cyprus. The lowest air temperature at night on Wednesday -31..-34 degrees in the north of Finland and Sweden.
