“It is important to understand for all who think about this bag and who do not yet think that these 72 hours are three days. Studying survival and crisis situations on a global scale, you must be able to provide aid to the population within three days. This means that for three days there can be a situation when a person has to be with what you have, with what you have in your bag, while the state and municipal services will be able to provide support and help,” Špickopfs says.

In the continuation of the conversation, the expert explains the “STOP” principle, which is useful not only in crises, but also in everyday situations when complex issues need to be resolved. The principle is based on four English words: S – stop, T – think, O – observe and P – plan.

“In order not to boil even more soap, it is important in a crisis situation to stop, to understand and think with a cool mind what really happened. The third step is to observe, to understand what are the resources around you. And only then start planning actions,” explains the expert.

Next, Oskar Spitzkopf tells you what to put in your 72-hour bag. To make it easier to remember and not to forget something important, he divides the content into four parts, four pillars.

The first of them is heat. “Primarily, a person needs warmth for survival. What provides warmth: a mat for the night that insulates the cold, a sleeping bag, spare clothes, a tent and also a kettle. With this, we have taken care of the heat,” says Špickopf.

Next – water and food. “A good example here is different types of food that do not spoil and can be eaten easily,” he continues.

The third pillar of the bag – medical and hygiene products. “Bandage, some painkillers, disinfectants, foil blanket, medical kit. Those are the things,” says the expert.

And the last – various gadgets and additional equipment. “A radio with batteries, a knife, a spare battery is very important to be able to charge both a laptop and a phone, a flashlight, spare batteries, a saw, a string. Such things that can help in different situations,” he says.

It is also important to remember your documents, wallet with cash. Also, a place should be found in the bag for a writing instrument and a pad where various useful phone numbers for communication with family, friends and services are recorded.

In addition, Oskar Špickopf recommends putting a small set of board games in your bag to occupy your mind.
