The association, which has carried out several protests, wants to form a new political party in Latvia

Association “Austoshā saule”, led by the former general secretary of the National Union (NA) Raivis Zeltīts, will form a political party.

On March 28, in the small guild “Austoshā saule” announced the plan to form a political party. Until now, the association has operated as a national public organization, holding various protest actions and initiatives aimed at reducing Russia’s influence in Latvia, for example, protesting against the “Moscow House” in Riga and the transit of Russian grain.

Zeltits told the LETA agency that currently national ideas are in several political parties, “several national-minded lists” are also candidates for the European Parliament elections. In his opinion, creating new parties is not a bad thing. “The more people will bring national ideas, the better”, believes the leader of the association, noting that “Rising Sun” is ready to cooperate with like-minded people.

According to Zeltitas, “Rising Sun” has several dozen members and supporters, and it is “completely possible” to gather the necessary 200 members to found the party.

When asked if there is a goal to participate in the next Saeima elections, Zeltits said that he will work. “We will not be in a big hurry, nor will we postpone anything – Saeima elections could be a realistic goal in two years,” said the leader of the emerging party.

Until 2020, Zeltits was the general secretary of NA and a member of the board, as well as the head of the party’s youth organization.
