From March 25 to April 19, the State Employment Agency (NVA) accepts applications from employers for the implementation of the student employment measure in the summer of 2024. This year, employers must submit applications for the implementation of the event digitally – by filling out the application form with current information on the vacancies offered to students and submitting them to the CV and vacancies portal.

An employer who employs a student with the support of the NVA in the summer will receive a subsidy for the student’s monthly salary in the amount of 50% of the minimum monthly salary established in the country. If the employer employs a student with a disability, the NVA grant will be in the amount of the minimum monthly wage determined by the state. NVA will pay for the student’s health check-up, if it is provided for by the regulations on mandatory health check-ups, as well as insure the student against accidents at the workplace. NVA will also grant a grant for the salary of the student’s supervisor. On the other hand, the employer will have to provide co-financing for the student’s salary, tax payment and compensation for the unused vacation. The student’s monthly salary for full working time must be at least equal to the state minimum wage – 700 euros before taxes.

A student can be employed at the event for a period of two weeks to two months. The rules of the student summer employment event provide that the employer can agree with a specific student about the workplace. We remind you that students may not be employed in jobs that involve an increased risk to their safety, health, morals and development.

In order to apply for the implementation of the student employment event, the employer must fill out the application form on the NVA CV and vacancies portal with current information on the offered vacancies and submit it to the NVA CV and vacancies portal. Employers’ applications and their compliance with the conditions of implementation of the measure will be evaluated by the NVA active employment measure implementers’ selection committee, which will make a decision to approve or reject the employer’s implementation of the measure. The NVA will inform the employer about the decision made electronically by sending a message to the e-mail address specified in the application, and in the case of a positive decision, will invite to conclude a contract on the creation of approved workplaces.

This year, the funding for the implementation of the event is 4,170,180 euros, which is enough to employ 9,929 students in the created workplaces. We invite employers not to postpone the submission of the application until the last moment, as the applications will be approved in the order they are submitted, and it may happen that the demand for the creation of state co-financed workplaces will exceed the funding available for the event.

Students’ application for participation in the summer employment event is planned to start on May 2, students will be able to apply for participation in the event electronically – by filling out the application form on the NVA website.

The NVA will implement the summer employment event for students in cooperation with employers from June 1 to August 31. Pupils aged 15 to 20 (inclusive) who receive education in general, special or professional educational institutions will be able to work in state co-financed workplaces. For the third year in a row, the children of Ukrainian civilians will also be able to take advantage of work opportunities during the summer holidays.

More information about the event is available on the NVA website in the section “Employers” à “Summer employment of students” (https://www.nva.gov.lv/lv/piedavaju-darbu-skolenu-vasaras-nodarbinatiba).

In the summer of 2023, 694 employers were involved in the implementation of the summer employment event for NVA students, the largest number of jobs were offered to students in the wholesale and retail trade, public administration and defense, accommodation and catering services, as well as manufacturing industries.
