The program “Māmiņu Klubs” focused on the discussion about playing with a child. Maybe parents don’t need to take the initiative in games at all? Mothers’ coach, book author Dana Gulbe shares her thoughts on raising a child’s self-confidence and self-esteem, on respectful treatment of a child and the activities he chooses.
She says about playing with children:
I will start with a confession – I have never liked playing with my child.
“I can bake a cake with him, take him for a walk, but please don’t make me sit on the carpet and play with him or build legos. If asked, do I want to do it? No! I don’t want to do it!
The reality is that most moms don’t want to do this. He only forces himself.
I was very helped by a statement I heard a few years ago – where did we get the idea that parents should play with their children in the first place? It’s actually a recent idea – adults live their lives and the child is around – he sees what mom is doing.”
