Speaking about the Russian grain import ban, in TV24’s “Kartības rullis” program, Saeima deputy Rihards Kol allowed that we can reach a moment when we will completely close the border with Russia for both transit and the movement of people.
The deputy emphasizes that now the issue of grain is relevant, but, for example, after two or three months, another area may appear.
He reminds that the Baltic states were the first to call for the suspension of air transport with Russia.
“We were the ones who said that air traffic with Russia should be completely stopped,” the deputy says, adding that this decision also took some time, as not everyone immediately agreed to it.
According to him, at a critical moment, the Baltic states, together with Poland and Finland, can completely close the border with Russia, not only for transit, but also for the movement of people.
The deputy emphasizes that Europe, despite the events in Ukraine, is unable to raise its defense industry, while Russia has regrouped to a war economy, where practically all factories work 24 hours a day.
We also contribute to it by purchasing Russian goods.
