In connection with the protests organized by farmers on Monday, February 5, the police call on all road users to plan their route times, taking into account possible traffic restrictions, the police informed the LETA agency.
Taking into account that on Monday, farmers throughout Latvia will start a pre-arranged protest action, and during it, the movement of agricultural machinery is planned on various routes, both on national and regional highways. This can hinder the flow of traffic throughout the country, so the State Police invites all road users to plan their route times, taking into account possible traffic restrictions.
During the protest action, public order will be ensured and overall road traffic safety will be monitored more closely, a large deployment of police forces is planned.
The police remind the organizers and participants of the protest action that all the norms of the law must be observed during the action – the State Police will not allow violations of the law and disturbances.
Also, the police reminds that every vehicle driver, when participating in road traffic, must comply with the general requirements of road traffic rules, as well as the vehicle must meet all the requirements for participation in road traffic.
Protests organized by farmers will take place on Monday, February 5, in 16 cities – Liepāja, Saldus, Talsi, Tukums, Kuldīga, Jelgava, Dobele, Bauska, Jēkabpils, Aizkraukle, Daugavpils, Rēzekne, Valmiera, Gulbene, Limbaži and Ogre.
Agricultural machinery will also be used during the protests.
Participants of the protests will gather at the starting points of the protests from 10 a.m., but the protests will start at 11 a.m., going along their own route in each city.
Among them, in Liepāja, the gathering of farmers will take place at the “Grobiņa” center of “Lina Agro” and the agricultural services cooperative society “Durbes grauds”, in Saldu – at the Saldus point of the agricultural services cooperative society “Latraps”, in Talsos – in the square near “Wurth”.
In Tukuma, the gathering will take place on the roads P104 and P98, at the roundabouts, in Kuldīga – in the square near the Ventas bridge, in Jelgava – at the “Latraps” Eleja point, in Dobele – on the Īle road near “HG Farming”, in Bauska – at the agricultural services cooperative society “Saimnieks-V “, in Jēkabpils – at the “Latraps” Jēkabpils point.
The gathering of farmers will take place in Aizkraukle at the Koknese Tīnužu road circle, in Daugavpils – at the “Latraps” Daugavpils point, in Rēzekne – at AS “Rēzeknes dzirnavnieks”, in Valmiera – at the agricultural services cooperative society “Vaks”, in Gulbene – at the “Vaks” Gulbena point, in Limbaži – “Elagro Trade” near Skulte, and in Ogre – near the Ogresgal viaduct.
During the protest, the farmers want to achieve a ban on the immediate import of food products from Russia and Belarus without a transition period, the restoration of the 5% reduced value added tax (VAT) rate for fruits, berries and vegetables characteristic of Latvia, the reduction of bureaucracy in the agricultural sector, wider access to financing and working capital programs, as well as waiver of national-level land encumbrances or other land use restrictions.
